KUB Plus – Cable Monitoring System

The KUB is a snap-on compact unit in an insulated housing, designed for monitoring the cable systems of DC railways with a nominal overhead line voltage of 750 V. It precisely detects insulation resistance between conductor and shield, shield and ground, as well as interruptions in the shield, using accurate resistance calculation.

Function

  • Adjustable Thresholds: Insulation resistance values can be configured directly on the device using rotary switches.
  • Fault Notification on Threshold Underrun: If the calculated resistance falls below the configured limit for a defined time period, the KUB signals a cable fault.
  • Relay-Based Signaling: Three potential-free relay contacts indicate cable faults and power supply failures.
  • Status Display & Test Function:
LEDs indicate the current operating status.
Test buttons (Rka and Rki) allow function testing.
Holding the buttons for 5 or 20 seconds simulates a cable fault.

Advantages

  • Universal Compatibility – Suitable for systems with either positive or negative busbars.
  • Self-Sufficient Power Supply – Powered directly from conductor voltage.
  • High-Precision Insulation Monitoring – Accurate calculation of internal and external insulation resistance.
  • Rapid Short-Circuit Detection – Conductor-to-shield short circuits detected within 2 seconds max.
  • Shield Interruption Detection – Detectable with external resistor.
  • Fiber Optic Interface – Transmission of parameters and measurements to SGBA-ZE or display unit.

Technical Specifications

  • Nominal Voltage: 750V according to DIN EN 50163 (VDE 0115-102)
  • Resistance Calculation: Based on conductor and shield voltage (Rka, Rki)
  • Threshold Comparison: User-defined limit values for resistance thresholds
  • Relay Control: Time-delayed activation when thresholds are undershot
  • Relay Outputs: Two potential-free changeover contacts each for Rka, Rki, and operating voltage
  • LED Display: Direct indication of operating status
