Comprehensive Reconstruction of the Substation Chemnitz / Berndorf

Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG operates a closely interconnected network of tram and railway lines – a total of 6 tram and 38 bus routes, serving around 33.4 million passengers per year. As part of the network expansion, new rectifier substations had to be constructed.

Scope of Services
ELPRO carried out the complete reconstruction of the Berndorf substation, including:

  • Delivery of the substation equipment, including key components such as DC switchgear, medium-voltage systems, and transformers
  • Cabling and installation within the existing substation infrastructure
  • Commissioning and coordination of technical systems to ensure smooth operation

The reconstruction was executed in accordance with the latest railway electrical engineering standards, strengthening Chemnitz’s infrastructure.

The project was completed on schedule and to the full satisfaction of CVAG. Since then, the new Berndorf substation has contributed to power supply reliability and grid stability – ensuring dependable public transport operations in Chemnitz.
